This year we are thrilled to have a fundraising opportunity that benefits not only the Booster Club, but also the 1st Touch Foundation/Project 3000.The Club will be selling raffle tickets for a one-of-a kind custom painted “Cubs” guitar.Mr. Ray Turski of Kissimmee, Florida has donated a hand painted Dean Evo series electric guitar to the Daytona Cubs Booster Club. The guitar depicts the Cubs logo along with several baseballs and a Louisville slugger bat!And that’s not all.
The guitar is signed by none other than Chicago Cubs All-Star first baseman, Derrek Lee!There will be only 1000 raffle tickets sold at $5.00 each.Proceeds from the sales of tickets will be split equally between the Daytona Cubs Booster Club and the 1st Touch Foundation/Project 3000.The drawing will be held on August 4, 2007 at the conclusion of the silent auction being held to benefit the 1st Touch Foundation/Project 3000.
Chicago Cubs star Derrek Lee and Boston Celtics CEO and co-owner Wyc Grousbeck have decided to combine their talents to eradicate a disease that has touched both of their families, Lebers Congenital Amaurosis or LCA. They call their effort "Project 3000" because a central part of their plan is to find every man, woman and child affected with LCA in the United States - about 3000 people.
LCA is an inherited form of blindness that is usually apparent shortly after birth. In most cases, affected children are otherwise completely healthy but a subset of children do have other problems such as learning disabilities, autism, seizures, or kidney disease. For more information about LCA and the 1st Touch Foundation/Project 3000, please visit their website at http://1sttouch.org/.

Hello Cubbie fans, Well it’s here, tonight marks the exhibition game for our boys in blue against Embry-Riddle and Thursday is the first game of the season in Manateeville, when the Cubs travel to our arch-rival team’s stadium for opening day. Several members are planning on making the trip south to exit 195 for the Thursday and Friday games. Our first home opener will be Saturday, April 7.
The Booster Club is already busy. Several members assisted Linda Lutrell in placing the welcome bags she put together in the team’s lockers for their arrival Monday evening.
There were a few of us at the Stadium when the bus brought our guys in from the airport. We saw a few familiar faces, including Alan Rick, Grant Johnson, Jake Muyco, Nate Spears and Robinson Chirinos, not to mention Steve Melendez and Richie Zisk! We also had a chance to greet the new skipper Jody Davis and pitching coach Rich Bombard.
Our first in season meeting for 2007 will be Saturday, April 14 at 5:30. Please try to attend as we have a lot to discuss for the 07 season and need input from as many members as possible. The gates open at 5 for a 7:05 start. The 14th will also be our 1st auction of the year and DJ would like to conduct a brief orientation for table volunteers. This will take place immediately following the meeting. I promise it will be short and sweet and we reveal some great ideas for the upcoming season.
Sorry for the delay in the shipping of T-Shirts and Bells to members who mailed in payments. We except to begin shipping next week. You will have your items in plenty of time for opening day. In the meantime, if anyone would like copies of the donation request letters to attempt to collect items for our auctions, please let me or Andie know.
The next meeting of the Daytona Cubs Booster Club is scheduled for January 25, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Southern Reporting building located at 346 S. Palmetto Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. At that time we will be accepting dues for the 2007 year and hopefully we will have our T-Shirt order. Remember the dues for this year is $15.00 per member and the T-Shirts will cost $6.00 each. This will be a working meeting as we will be stuffing envelopes to mail off membership applications to members not in attendance and to send out some donation requests for the 07 Silent Auctions.
The next meeting of the Daytona Cubs Booster Club will be held on Deceber 7, 2006 at 6:30. The location will be determined at a later date, but tentatively, we will meet at the Southern Reporting Company building located at 346 S. Palmetto Ave, Daytona Beach, 32114. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving.
